The project investigates new ways of disseminating art based on interactive installations. We have set the focus on the artist’s sketchbooks and its inherent qualities. The virtual sketchbook is a recurring metaphor and appereance in our installations. Two types of installations have been developed and studied: a four-book version in the Experience Cylinder (of RUC’s experience Lab), and a single-book installation based on two projectors shooting into a corner of, say, an exhibition room in a museum, and a sensor with simple gesture recognition. The latter version is the most successful one, being a “clean” book that is loyal to an existing book and the task of making that book available to the museum visitor (i.e., no “smart” computer effects allowed, which would destroy the illusion of a book); however, the installations provides an enhanced experience due to the oversize, the direct interaction and (not least) that fact that the content of a fragile and irreplaceable becomes available for the visitor. The last part of the project concentrates on evaluation and perfectioning of the design.
We have great ambitions for the technology used in Italian Drawings in relation to art museums, nationally and internationally.
The website viskbook.com presents a generic installation to display rare and precious books, for example. great artists’ sketchbooks.
Here we show versions of the digital sketchbook exhibited different places e.g. Nivaagaards Painting Collection, various libraries, etc., and we invite new collaborations.
Besides danish and foreign museums, we are also interested in exhibiting at trade fairs, in urban spaces, in bookshops etc.
