The title of Jeanette Blomberg’s lecture is “Ethnography and Participatory Design”, and the focus will be on the long, complicated, and contested history of the relationship between these two.

Abstract for the lecture
The abstract for Jeanette Blomberg’s lecture is: “The relationship between ethnography and Participatory Design has a long, complicated, and contested history.  Questions have been raised about whether the sensibilities, commitments, and requirements of design and of ethnography are aligned both practically and philosophically.  In this talk I will discuss various approaches that have been developed to connect ethnography and design with attention to the similarities and incongruities between Participatory Design and ethnography.  I will conclude with thoughts about the challenges and opportunities ahead for the next generation of participatory designers.”
