Not all cyclists are white and ‘youngish’ and ride trendy vintage or fixie bikes. Thousands of ‘poor’ Mexican and Chinese ‘migrants’ make a living working as couriers for restaurants. They are recognizable by their yellow vests and cheap mountain bikes. At Manhatten they can at times easily outnumber other commuters.

The new bike sharing system, the Citibike, has on the other hand, persuaded many ‘professionals’ in their suits to use bikes, when they head from meeting to another or their way home to the station.
