Urban cycle mobilities in New York – Day 6.

At Williamsburg Bridge making observations and ‘cycling along’. ‘Fixes’ (bikes with brakes!) are still ‘cool’ and used by many at this bridge connecting Williamsburg and Lower East Manhatten where lots of creative-type reside. Around here cycling is definitely a fashionable thing performed by youngish able-bodied – and often tattooed – bodies.

The popularity of the fixie bike demonstrates how cycling culture here is shaped by the edgy messanger-bike culture that developed here in 80s and 90s.
