Urban cycle mobilities in New York – day 1

by Jonas Larsen

In New York to do a small (auto)ethnographic study of cycling in New York. Like some many other cities around the world cycling has finally received some political attention. The Department of Transport of New York is proud to announce that they have build some 300 km cycling lanes within the last 5 years or so. However, most of them simple consist of some paint on the street (similar to London), and in my ‘hood’ that painting is already disappearing. Is the biking lane disappearing with the paint?  We are a far cry from Danish style cycle lans. Design is nothing without maintenance. But do they work? Stay tuned!IMG_3213
